Bruce Weinstein, Ph.D., is the professional ethicist known as The Ethics Guy®. His interactive talks to businesses, schools, the military, and a wide range of non-profit organizations across the country show how living an ethical life makes us happier, healthier, and more prosperous—but that the reason to do the right thing is simply because it's the right thing to do.
He appears as an ethics analyst regularly on the FOX Business Network and writes the column, "Ask the Ethics Guy," for BusinessWeek.com. Dr. Weinstein has also appeared on NBC's "Today Show," ABC's "Good Morning America," CNN’s "Anderson Cooper 360," MSNBC's "Live," FOX News Channel's "O’Reilly Factor," CNBC's "Capital Report," Bloomberg Television's "Personal Finance," and NPR’s "Leonard Lopate Show."
Dr. Weinstein is the author or editor of five books on ethics. His latest book is Life Principles: Feeling Good by Doing Good (Emmis Books). He received a Bachelor's degree in Philosophy from Swarthmore College, a Ph.D. in Philosophy and Bioethics from Georgetown University.
Tuesday, November 18, 2008, Promoting Ethics Research Workshop 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m., UNL
A Responsible Conduct of Research Education Committee (RCREC) Workshop sponsored by the Association for Practical and Professional Ethics and UNL’s Robert J. Kutak Center for the Teaching & Study of Applied Ethics.
Objectives of Workshop: 1) Introduce participants to the rationale, goals and content for a research ethics curriculum. 2) Provide participants with tools and resources to incorporate the teaching of research ethics in the curriculum for research trainees. 3) Provide participants with tools and resources to introduce the teaching of research ethics in the mentoring of research trainees.

The Program in Business Ethics and Society provides opportunities for discussion of ethical issues among both students and faculty. Since its founding in 1998, the Program in Business Ethics has sponsored numerous speakers, luncheon discussion groups, workshops and seminar presentations. Recent speakers and events include the following:
Speaker Series: Mike Sears, , former Boeing CFO, will present "How do you recover from an ethical mistake?" His talk will be on Tuesday, March 27 at the City Union Auditorium, at 7:00 pm. The lecture will be open to the entire University and general public. Admission is free.
Speaker Series: Lynn Brewer, a former Enron executive and whistleblower, will present a lecture on her career at Enron and her decision to blow the whistle. Her talk will be on Monday, February 12 at the Lied Center, from 2:30-3:30 pm. The lecture will be open to the entire University and general public. Admission is free.
Lunch Discussion Group: Janice Lawrence, Director of the Program in Business Ethics, will give a tour of the new Program in Business Ethics website which contains resources useful to instructors in both the classroom and research. She will also present the results of the CBA faculty survey on ethics integration in CBA and the UNL campus survey of both CBA faculty and PhD students on perceptions of teaching responsible research.
Lunch Discussion Group: Matt Hecker, Director of Student Judicial Affairs, spoke about the issues identified by his office as problematic at UNL. Faculty and GTAs joined in a discussion of what can be done to strengthen academic integrity in your classrooms.
Lunch Discussion Group: Dr. Laurie Bellows, Director of Graduate Student Professional Development, lead a session on ethical dilemmas in the classroom. Several difficult classroom situations between instructors and undergraduate students were depicted in video scenarios. The ethical issues, possible responses/actions, and the implications for teaching were discussed.
Ethics Curriculum Development Luncheon: The recipients of Ethics Curriculum Development Grants for the academic year 2005-2006, each presented the classroom materials they developed and discussed the integration of these materials into their current curriculum.
Speaker Series: Patrick Kuhse, a white-collar felon and former financial analyst, spoke to over 350 CBA students and faculty about the critical-thinking errors that led him to commit his crimes. He provided guidelines for others to prevent similar behavior and warning signals that indicate lapses in ethical thinking.
Lunch Discussion Group: Becky Freeman, UNL IRB Coordinator provided tips to navigate the IRB procedures for approval when using human subjects. She answered questions and provided materials about project submissions, IRB requirements and subject anonymity.
Lunch Discussion Group: Dr. Daniel Vasgird , Director of Research Compliance Services and Research Integrity Officer, spoke about research integrity, as well as compliance breakdowns, at research institutions. He presented the elements of a successful responsible conduct of research program.
